ST. JOHN — Police in Saint John, N.B., say a 20-year-old man has appeared in court on a first-degree murder charge for a shooting that prompted a public alert on Tuesday.

The Saint John Police Force says two other suspects – one of whom is a youth – have been taken into custody.

Both will appear in court at a later date.

Police said on Tuesday that officers responded to a report of shots fired in the uptown area of Saint John, and found a 20-year-old man dead in a vehicle.

The shooting prompted police to lock down schools in the area around King's Square and issue an order for nearby residents to remain indoors.

Police have not released more details about the victim.
