A wildfire is burning out of control behind a gas station in Hope on Thursday.
Firefighters with the Hope Fire Department first responded to the fire around midnight on July 3 and said the fire was burning on the mountain behind the Esso Travel Centre.
"小蓝视频 Wildfire Service is on site with ground crews and air support active as of 8 a.m.,” said a spokesperson with the District of Hope.
Helicopters are bucketing the fire with water on Thursday and a 10-person 小蓝视频WS crew is on site.
Nearby resident Mark Bussman has been watching the pilots fly over his home all morning.
“The helicopters are putting it down but there is some smoke still,” said Bussman.
People are asked to avoid the area and stay clear of emergency operations.
The fire is burning rank one to two, which is a moderate intensity, and is suspected to be human-caused.
小蓝视频 Wildfire Service has the fire mapped at 0.6 hectares in size as of 9:30 a.m. on July 3.
The area where the fire is burning is near a popular hike called Serpent's Back. The trailhead is just above the fire.
